Outstanding Friends Award for North Fork Friends

2011 Outstanding Friends Service Award Presented
The 2011 Outstanding Friends of Libraries Service Award was presented to the Friends of the North Fork Community Library at the recent All Friends Gathering in Lynden.  This annual award is presented by the Whatcom County Library System (WCLS) to a Friends group or individual Friend for outstanding service that strengthens community connections and advocates for libraries.  Nominations are submitted by branch library managers and their selection for the award is affirmed by the WCLS Board of Trustees.
Library manager Georgina Furlong-Head explained that she nominated her Friends group for their outstanding success in building a new library facility that serves the North Fork/Kendall region of Whatcom County.  “Without their shared vision, perseverance, seemingly limitless patience and hard work this project would not have survived. And without their pride in ownership and continued determination, the project would not be maintained for future generations,” said Furlong-Head.
The North Fork Friends received a certificate and the Outstanding Friends “traveling plaque” engraved with their name and branch library, which will hang in their library until the 2012 winner is chosen.
Additional Honorees for this award include Marie Becker of the Friends of the Deming Library for her long-time work on the Friends book sale and finances, and the Friends of Everson’s McBeath Library for their continued excellence in providing programing, advocacy, and facilities improvements for the Everson Library.
Congratulations and thanks to the Friends of Libraries groups for their work to support libraries and reading in Whatcom County!
